Here are two examples of websites. They both put up info
of their choice, so let’s not evaluate the pricing or
wording. Both are Day Spas, both request music, both
want art work and graphics, etc. Now there are times
when we need animations and flash, like a travel agency.
When people are ready for a vacation they want to feel
the cruise ship and island mood. A day spa is somewhat
the same as people want to feel the relaxing atmosphere
on the website. |
Let’s look at a few key areas.

The title is not on the top header area.
Color combination needs work. The music is
the wrong choice for the general public, you
can't just pick music you like.
People in general prefer slower
instrumentals as a “Zen” style feeling. No
on/off SW for the video & music, so if
you’re at your office at your desk, look
out! Plus at 5.77 MB it's slow to load. The
biggest problem is Copy Writes. If you don't
have permission, you can get sued for
400,000 dollars! |

I like the earthy colors. The header is a
flash 392k and not just a boxy square flash.
The music is a MIDI 4.64 KB (much faster
loading) plus it has a lighter, calm feeling
and it has an on/off SW. I have purchase
the rights to use this music. It also has nice
rollover buttons and is navigation balanced
from page to page. |

There is no title on this page. This is
important because if you came in on a search
to this page, you would not know (without
going to the home page) who this is? This
photo should not be distorted. The News
Print style info should at least have a
margin too. |

This website has the same theme overall.
Very good calming music with on/off SW on
the page. They use a scroll bar for reading
general info and the stylists and
technicians have their own pages for pricing
with personal info. |

of the local area, so if you are from out of
town you are just as lost. They don't even
have a link to map quest. |

Here they have an interactive map of local
directions and photos of the street and
where to turn. Plus if you are from out of
town you can type in your address in the
window and get door to door directions with
map navigation to follow, without leaving
the site |

description line under the name or name in
the browser line. |

Both Day Spas could give outstanding
service, but how would you know? Based on
simple choices and options you create your
first impression. Which would you pick first
to visit? It’s not my intention to run down
a website and there are far worse websites
out there, but my point is many people do
think they are great webmasters just because
they know a little about computers and
nowadays, with free generic web-domain,
anybody can build one. So the bottom line is
you’re only as good as you look! Get a good
webmaster in your area. Go the extra mile so
you can get in the fast lane! Also a good
webmaster will get you better Google page
rank too.
Yes, I designed the second website Artistic
Expressions Day Spa, and it was quite a
challenge. I worked with nine girls, all
artists in their own field and with nine
unique personalities...LOL, but it was great
fun and educational too.
